Plan your vacation on a budget

Vacations can be a lot of fun, stress free and non-budget breaking with a little planning and resourcefulness. Here are some tips and ideas to get most out of your vacation.

Do your research

Learn about the place you want to visit, make a list to places to see, shop and eat (esp. if you have dietary restrictions), know the timings of museums, amusement parks, temples, bus or metro schedules, restaurants, check the weather, find what places locals frequent and recommend. lonavala

There are many ways to get this information. – Check local online sites, read up local and tourist reviews, check travel blogs, ask your friends, colleagues and family who have traveled there before, talk to travel agents or post questions on travel forums and discussion boards. Also, check the govt. city, district, state and tourism websites. These sites may not be very organized and user friendly but they have a wealth of useful information.
Comparison Shop and Book Early

There was a time when your only lodging options were crashing at your relative’s house, or staying at a dharamshala or a five star hotel. Fortunately, now there are many good, clean mid-tier hotels for every budget level. And you can book hotels as well as car, taxi, bus, train, airline tickets online using many online travel-booking sites or call their customer service. Do note many hotels as well as travel options on these online sites may not be comprehensive, so do check both online and offline sources.

Here are some tips to trim your budget:

  • Shop online for travel deals. Look out for promotional offers by airlines, hotels and online travel sites.
  • Book your hotel and travel tickets early. Generally hotel and air tickets get expensive closer to travel date.
  • Go during off-season. The cost may be 20-50% lower than the seasonal rate and you will avoid the mad tourist crowd.
  • Stay outside the main town or city esp. if you have a car or can rent a car and can commute to town easily. Hotel rates again may be 20-50% lower.
  • Take a package deal that includes meals, travel and hotel. It is generally cheaper than booking each separately.

Plan, Pack and Have Fun

Make a basic trip day-by-day itinerary planned but don’t over plan and keep it flexible. Pack light. These things might sound pretty basic but have your camera batteries, medicines, check the weather and carry appropriate clothes.

Also keep safety issues in mind. Have the local hospital and police information handy.

While on the trip, relax and have fun! Do try the local cuisine.

If you are shopping for gifts or souvenirs, be wary of people trying to get you a deal and keep track of all your expenses.

After Travel…

If this is your first visit, go for tourist stuff. Next time take offbeat trips.

Of-course don’t forget to come back to JantaReview and write reviews and submit articles about your travel experience.

  1. NYC Car Service says:

I think the best way to travel as a tourist is by hiring a limo company or car service, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Plus, the ride in itself is an experience to enjoy with your party.
